OPCS-4 Classification of Interventions and Procedures

Welcome to the OPCS-4 Requests Portal. This web portal will allow you to submit change requests to the NHS Classification Service all year round. OPCS-4 Requests Portal User Guide provides detailed instructions on how to use the Portal.

The OPCS-4 Classification is an Inherited Information Standard. To ensure that the Classification reflects current clinical practice, the NHS Classifications Service has an established maintenance cycle to support annual review and update of OPCS-4.

Any changes to the OPCS-4 Information Standard for use in the NHS are subject to approval by the NHS Information Standards Board.

Requesters are asked to study the guidance document (PDF, 50Kb) carefully before submitting a request as those requests for change that do not meet the criteria cannot be considered. Further information on submissions can be found in the OPCS-4 Requests Portal Question and Answers document

We thank you for the time taken to provide your suggestion.

To be able to submit a request for change to OPCS-4, you need to log in with your user name and password. This is different to the one supplied for the main NHS Connecting for Health website. Please register to login and use the OPCS-4 Requests Portal.

Note: The Department of Health (DH) will host the requests for change to the chemotherapy regimens list from 1 December 2009.

Any requests received prior to the cut-off date of 1 December 2009 will be forwarded to the DH PbR Development team. On 1 December the dedicated area for the input of requests for change to the chemotherapy regimens list will be removed from the OPCS-4 Requests Portal.

The DH PbR Development team is designing a new process to capture this information which will be available on the DH website under Feedback to the PbR Team at: http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Managingyourorganisation/Financeandplanning/NHSFinancialReforms/index.htm

More detailed information is on a newly created webpage as part of the main clinical coding website. There are links from this site to both the comprehensive FAQ and the DH website where they hope to host the new portal to capture requests.
